Another Sudan?
The
BBC reports:
More than 100 people have been killed in clashes between Arab and non-Arab communities in Chad's south-eastern region of Salamat
I really hope we're not seeing the first skirmishes of what could become another Darfur ... :-(
Databases? Oh no, run away!
Last night's edition of
thelondonpaper has an article entitled "
How we are caught on camera 300 times a day". It's been a
popular theme recently, following on from a report recently presented to the Information Commissioner.
But what I really wanted to point out was the last item in the infobox accompanying the article (which you can read for yourself
here). See it? It has the shock exposé that:
Personal details of Oyster card users are kept on a database
Oh my god! To the barricades! They're using
databases now!
Well really, what did they expect? That users' details were going to be lovingly enscribed onto
vellum by calligraphers? Or maybe carved onto clay slabs and stacked in a storeroom? Of course details are kept on a database, where else could they be?
